Which storage and shipping containers can I rent from Finsterwalder?

Depending on the current rental inventory, Finsterwalder offers various types of containers for temporary storage. These primarily include shipping containers that can be used as storage space. Storage containers and other storage solutions may also be available depending on the location and current availability.

The available sizes, designs and conditions are assessed on a project-by-project basis. Please provide us with as much information as possible about what you intend to store and how much space you require.

What is the difference between a storage container and a shipping container?

A storage container is specifically designed for the stationary storage of tools, machinery, building materials and other equipment. Finsterwalder’s robust MC-series storage containers feature, among other things, double-leaf doors, a laminated timber floor, forklift pockets, crane lifting points, forced ventilation and a protected locking area.

A shipping container was originally developed for the international transportation of goods. At Finsterwalder, rental shipping containers are primarily used as robust and flexible storage space.

The most suitable type depends on the goods being stored, the required size, accessibility, floor load capacity and the installation site.

What can I use a rental storage container for?

Rental storage and shipping containers are suitable for use as construction-site storage, tool storage, material depots, machinery storage, tyre storage or as temporary additional storage space for commercial and industrial businesses.

An uninsulated steel container may not be suitable for goods that are sensitive to moisture or temperature fluctuations. For these applications, Finsterwalder offers insulated, heated and air-conditioned storage containers.

Hazardous substances may only be stored in systems that are suitable and approved for this purpose.

Which sizes of rental containers are available?

The most common shipping container sizes are 20 feet, 40 feet and 40-foot High Cube. Depending on the current rental inventory, smaller or alternative sizes may also be available for storage containers.

The actual selection available depends on the location, rental start date, rental period and current inventory. Finsterwalder will determine the appropriate size based on your required storage capacity and the available space at the installation site.

In addition to storage volume, the door opening, internal height and accessibility should also be considered when selecting a container.

Can I use a rented shipping container for transport or export purposes?

The most common shipping container sizes are 20 feet, 40 feet and 40-foot High Cube. Depending on the current rental inventory, smaller or alternative sizes may also be available for storage containers.

The actual selection available depends on the location, rental start date, rental period and current inventory. Finsterwalder will determine the appropriate size based on your required storage capacity and the available space at the installation site.

In addition to storage volume, the door opening, internal height and accessibility should also be considered when selecting a container.

Are rented storage and shipping containers wind- and watertight?

The contractually agreed condition is specified in the respective rental quotation. Enclosed containers are used for standard storage applications and are intended to protect the stored goods against normal weather conditions.

However, being wind- and watertight does not mean that condensation cannot form inside the container. Particularly during significant temperature fluctuations, moisture may condense on the steel walls and roof.

For sensitive goods, it should therefore be determined in advance whether additional ventilation, insulation or a different container solution like a refrigerated container is required.

How much does it cost to rent a storage or shipping container?

Rental costs depend on the container type, size, rental period, condition, delivery location and required equipment. Additional charges may apply for delivery, unloading, collection, shelving, ramps, security locks or other accessories.

The distance from the available depot and the local conditions at the installation site may also affect the transport costs.

Finsterwalder will provide you with a free, non-binding quotation listing all items relevant to your project.

Can the rental container be supplied with shelving and accessories?

Yes. Finsterwalder can also provide shipping containers as storage space fitted with suitable shelving. Depending on the intended use, options may include standard shelving, long-goods racks or tyre racks.

Additional equipment such as access ramps, support plates, steps and various security locking systems is also available. The accessories that can be rented or supplied with the container depend on current availability and the intended use.

Any required equipment should be specified when submitting your rental enquiry.

How can I protect tools and materials against theft?

Finsterwalder’s MC-series storage containers are equipped as standard with a protected locking area in which a suitable padlock can be installed. Finsterwalder also offers additional security locking systems for shipping and storage containers.

However, the tenant remains responsible for ensuring that the container is properly locked and that access to the site is adequately secured.

Particularly valuable goods should be appropriately insured. The tenant is responsible for checking whether insurance cover exists and determining the extent of that cover.

How is the rental container delivered and installed?

Finsterwalder can organise delivery to the required address and, if requested, also arrange unloading. If you have suitable unloading equipment available, delivery without unloading may also be possible, depending on the agreed terms.

The delivery vehicle requires sufficient space for manoeuvring and deploying its stabilisers. The intended installation site must be accessible and free from obstacles.

Delivery and collection dates are agreed in advance. The exact scope of services is specified in the individual rental quotation.

What type of ground is required for a rented storage container?

The ground must be level, stable and sufficiently reinforced. The container should be positioned horizontally on suitable support points or support plates.

If the ground is unsuitable, the container may become distorted. This can cause the doors to become difficult to operate or prevent them from closing correctly.

Unless otherwise agreed in the quotation, the customer is responsible for preparing the installation site and ensuring that it has sufficient load-bearing capacity.

What do I need to consider at the end of the rental period and when returning the container?

The container must be deregistered within the agreed notice period, completely emptied and made available for collection in accordance with the contractually agreed cleaning requirements. Items left behind, heavy soiling and unauthorised alterations may result in additional charges.

The access route, crane operating area and container must be freely accessible on the agreed collection date. If collection cannot take place due to obstacles for which the customer is responsible, additional travel, waiting-time or rental charges may apply.

The individual quotation, rental agreement and Finsterwalder’s rental terms and conditions govern notice periods, the end of the rental period, the required return condition, damage and any cleaning charges.
